How does this work?
You'll join teams of four and meet at the start point. We give you player #s to pin to your chest and back, and a map with the location of 20 checkpoints in the game area (which is about 500m x 500m). You've got 60 minutes to reach as many checkpoints as you can and text in the codes; you'll get a text back with your team's new score and leaderboard position. Some checkpoints open and close during the game, and some are only reachable with clues you'll find at others, so you'll have to keep working out your strategy with your team. More importantly, all the checkpoints are guarded - and if the guard can get close enough to see your player number, they'll text it in and you'll be banned from part of the game zone. So it's about running, sneaking, cracking clues, plotting routes on the map, spotting what other teams are up to, and working with your team - with a tight deadline. We've run it half a dozen times before and it's always a blast ;).
How much running is there?
As much as you want; we've deliberately designed this so that stealth, cunning, good teamwork and solid map-reading are important as well as raw speed. We have a wide range of players, so you'll have a team or two to compete with no matter how seriously - or not - you're taking it. You'll want to be comfortable with at least walking fast for an hour, though!
What about the weather?
"I will not be winter's prisoner" - Gwyn, lead game designer. We believe in fighting back against winter's creeping paralysis by getting out there! Having said that, if it's actually pouring we'll reschedule.
Who are you guys?
We're Fire Hazard, one of the UK's leading street games outfits, and we've been running, screaming, evading and escaping since 2008. We're the team behind the sellout burglary experience Heist, and have been appeared in the Guardian (a couple of times), Time Out, and stacks of other places.
What's the deal with ticketing?
Our usual games are free, and everybody plays - there's no dedicated crew and very little setup. We're running a formal ticketed game again to raise money for our friends over at Mind, who are doing really important work. (We're not formally affiliated with Mind in any way, we just think they're awesome. You can view previous donations here.)
(Want to grab some friends first? We also have a facebook event page where you can invite them.)
